I could not figure where the kids were. It must have been almost 6:45 PM before our doorbell rang. We had eaten our whole dinner, cleaned up, lay down to chill before we heard that first Ding Dong! I was reading on my sofa and my oldest son was watching TV with his father and brother in the other room, sports, Football to be specific, when we got the first all important summons to the door! My son ran for all he was worth. I let him, because by this time, the blush was off the rose! I was now “In book world” that’s what I call it when I get into my reading frame of mind.
Of course I could not figure out how these little children could have kept their cool all day and not driven their parents nuts. I remember when I was a child, I would “beg” my parents to let us Trick or Treat at the crack of dawn. Of course we had to wait ’til after church, and then a little while longer to let the families have some down time together.
So, are children that much better behaved these days? Doubt it? Or are their days just better planned than ours were? Probably! Maybe since church, there were plans, Grandma’s house, friends parties, church happening, etc. That’s all I can figure.
So, once the doorbell started ringing it was pretty constant until my boys decided to leave at 8:30. We went through almost all our candy. We started going into my husbands stash that was for work. Then it ended just like it began. Which was perfect, because at that time I wanted to chill totally, not jump up and down. So the timing was great.
I have to say the kids were adorable as usual and my son and I had fun interacting with them, but I’m glad it’s over again. All the brouhaha, the decorating, the costumes, making & buying of candy for a few hours of lunacy, is it worth it, I’d say the kids would say YES!
