Why is it after 40 years and 2 generations, that radio DJ‘s insist on playing the same handful of played out, safe songs by the same Super Groups of the 60’s & 70’s? For example Jimi Hendrix put out over 30 albums, Led Zepplin probably 12-15 albums yet the rock stations seem to insist on playing the same 6-7 hits of theirs until we are so sick of them. How many times have you heard Stairway To Heaven, or All Along the Watch Tower, really? If I was a DJ I’d hang myself in the studio if I had to listen to these same songs one more time, let alone play them. How about American Woman by the Guess Who that’s the usual how about trying the song Undun, it’s good.
You’d think with this being their forte, they’d do their research, find hard to find extra special songs that are different, turn us on to them. After all, these songs aren’t the only best of the best . They are the most popular, but if you listen to the artists albums, there are many songs that may be just as well musically composed and arranged but just plain different and they might appeal to a wider audience now. The younger audience and or the older audience that didn’t even realize these songs were on the album at the time might like these songs as much as the old stand bys . Come on DJ’s use some imagination and shake it up a little!
After all, I’m not a music afficianado, but I can come up with some good lesser played oldies if push comes to shove!

And it’s not like these are one hit wonders that you are talking about. Hendrix? Zepplin? They have TONS of great songs. Let’s hear them all!

Evie, I agree wholeheartedly. I have tried for 20 years or so to get FM rock stations to play “Together,” a song from Ted Nugent’s “Free For All” LP featuring guest vocals by Meatloaf and a great solo from Ted, but have yet to get even a so-called “All Request” show to play it! Welcome to corporate rock radio!
