The other day I decided Spooky the Cat really needed to have his claws clipped, so while I was at the Pet Smart having him attended to, I got the bright idea, why not treat him and myself to a wonderful “FULL” treatment of a grooming, bath, brushing, etc.? Sounds great in my head, but since my cat and I have this extra connection be it extrasensory perception or what, he immediately knew something was in store for him.
Unfortunately the grooming couldn’t be done right then and there, I had to take him home and wait until the morning knowing all night what was in store for him the next day. He was immediately on red alert. He decided to make himself scarce and I knew it was going to be hard to find and get him in his holder and deliver him to the kind girl who was going to make him so handsome and clean for me.
So today was the fateful morning. I decided to get him in his carrier before I was totally ready so he wouldn’t “disappear” if he got an inkling that we were getting ready to go for his great adventure.
So as I tried to catch him he took off, but I herded him towards one room, quickly closed the door. Yay! I had him trapped. Now I don’t mean this cruelly, but you have to be strategic at this point in the plan. I decided I’d go in and try to get him and my husband would run point, big accident, he mistakenly opened the door and the cat darted for freedom. Oh, no I thought. Here we go. Hours of chasing him to no avail, and we’ll never make our 11:00 am appointment. We’ll both look like boobs! But no, my husband quickly sat on the floor, whistled his little call to Spooky and he lay on the floor and I ran around the other way and got him, threw him in the carrier, and Viola! We were on our way.
3 Hours later we had our beloved pet back with us with as few tears shed as possible as this was the first time I’ve ever been separated from him. I was told he was a little angel, he did not mind his bath, nor his brushing, ear cleaning, eye cleaning but the blow dryer‘s noise frightened him so it was shortened immensely. I’m glad for that. I wouldn’t want it to have traumatized him, then he would probably associate the carrier with bad memories. So all in all, the grooming was a success!
Spooky is even more beautiful than before, if that is possible!
