I don’t know if I’m being picky and a biased bitch but shouldn’t a Memorial Service be more along the lines of the readings of the Old and the New Testament like two of the politicians Eric Holder & Janet Napolitano did rather than running political speeches kind of like President Obama did? He did round it off and bring it more back in line like a memorial by the end, citing a beautiful quote of Christina Greene’s of jumping in rain puddles and hoping she is jumping in them in Heaven that was very touching, but I could have done without the clapping and standing ovations that Obama couldn’t help. I think people forgot that he being the President should NOT preclude the solemnness of the whole thing being a memorial service and maybe no clapping and interrupting the speech itself would be more acceptable!
Perhaps if the President himself had interrupted his speech for a minute, and reminded the people where they were and what they were doing in Tucson, they would have realized the inappropriateness of the applause and stopped, but I don’t know what the President was thinking, perhaps he thought the public needed the outlet and the release of their emotions, or maybe he didn’t even think it out that deeply. I don’t know. I just thought it was tacky, and I don’t know if family members of the dead and injured appreciated the almost carnival atmosphere of the gathering. Just saying. What do you think?

Hi, Evie. My husband said the same thing, why didn’t Obama ask for a more peaceful calm. Sorry, but I think that the answer is pretty clear: the President will take a nice stroke to the ego ANY DAY of the WEEK! From the beginning of the memorial with the Native American “blessing” which didn’t seem traditional to me, but as a white girl, what do I know, to the finale with Obama yelling, I was left in a stupor. Thanks for visiting my blog! And thank you for your perspective 🙂 Blessings!

Well, I understand, the Native American Blessing, they are big on that here in the South West, as this was their land. I live here in AZ and I get that but the rest of it left me mighty uncomfortable. I thought Obama looked like he had a sanctimonious smirk on his face which is par for the course since he thinks he is so much more intelligent than the rest of us! I liked your blog! Thank you for stopping by mine!! Evie
