Is Valentine’s Day Commercial Enough For You?!

Valentines heart

Oh Cupid, you're so stupid!

I don’t think women know all the pressure this day puts on men to perform. If a man is not a natural romantic the commercialism of this day is so over the top no one can miss the cues for the purchase of “just” the right gift. And really what “is” the right gift? If it’s not from the heart, with meaning, love and thought, it’s not worth anything.

I do not usually feel any sympathy for people for falling into the ridiculous traps of modern society, but this “holiday” has just turned so obnoxiously commercial by the flower, candy, underwear, pajama, and jewelery industries it is a shame they have ruined it. I hear so many men  who are confused, bemused and alarmed that they won’t do the right thing on Monday, Valentines Day I am amazed. That is not what the day was/is about. It was a day to show love for your Sweetheart because you were bursting with the LOVE, not because you had to buy a gift just because it was a special day on the calendar. A person shouldn’t have to be reminded ad naseum or be in trouble for forgetting or not showing their heart on their sleeve! Why is it all about the women? I admit, when we were dating, I always had some cute sexy gift for my boyfriend (now husband) and now all he gets is a card. But maybe that proves my point. He knows I love him, I show him in many ways all calendar year, including buying him nonsensical little treats all the time.

Why do we need a Special Day to remember we love each other? Perhaps flowers on a totally different day would be “Oh so” much more special, don’t ya’ think?

I didn’t even touch on the subject of how awful all the stupid talk of Valentine’s Dances, Valentine’s Dinners make single people feel. How lonesome it must make single people feel. Enough. It’s just another day!

I also hate the made up days like Grand Parents Day for one…

I agree. Valentine’s Day is just another day, but if you believe this and your significant other is obsessed with it, the day only represents stress and irritation. I hate it.

I quite I agree and my condolences & sympathy are with you. If you as the giver really DO feel moved, God bless you, there just shouldn’t be such expectations involved all around…I tell my husband every year, please don’t get me anything, I KNOW you love me…he usually does something little like a little bouquet of flowers while he’s out & about, but there is no pressure, let me assure you! For the reasons already mentioned I’ve never celebrated it and will probably never do 😉
