Wild Horses

Today, Sunday is one of my favorite days of the week. Our boys come over from Tempe, AZ which is about 30 min. to visit from college to watch sports at home with us on the large screen and have home-cooked meals and live entertainment, mostly their mother and father being their ridiculous selves, that they’ve soooo outgrown now that they are grown college men.

After having spent some time with the boys, having had some lunch and some laughs we decided to hit the casino. Knowing in my infinite wisdom that they would be busy with the laundry they brought, the basketball they love that they wouldn’t even miss us, I decided that my husband and I would enjoy a top-down convertible ride to the casino to spend some quality time together.

As we were driving along Maricopa, enjoying the beautiful spring sunshine looking at the scenic vista, we suddenly spied wild horses running in the desert. It was one of the most beautiful moments, to see the majesty of these creatures running free as I’ve never seen before. We’ve lived here 6 years and I’ve always heard rumor that there are wild horses running and living in the desert, there is even an area and Casino called Wild Horse Pass, so I have been welcomed into the club.

Perhaps the wild horses were a good omen as it seems I could not touch a machine without doing well. I only play 2 cent machines but I won $350 and the rush I got from it was so awesome. It seemed I just knew which machine to pick and my mojo was strong. All the bonus screens were opening, all the lights blinking the bells were ringing. It was so much fun, so exhilarating. I have been on a cold streak lately so to have a super fun day at the casino and make some pocket-money was nothing but positive.

To be up to the gambling with my shoulder pain, yesterday when I found some serious energy I decided to clean and organize around the house. As I was rifling through drawers deciding what was junk and what was worth keeping I found some ICY/HOT menthol analgesic pads for pain relief. I put them on the sore spot and found they are very effective so I slept with them on and have decided they are my new life-saver.

In an update of my stupidity, I have to share a wacky blank spot in my memory yet again. Unfortunately, this time it really annoyed me. With my post-op shoulder pain the doctor and physical therapists have suggested I sleep in a recliner. Duh. I’m thinking we don’t have one…well we don’t have a stand alone recliner, but out of sight, out of mind is too true in this case.  We had a sofa with recliners on each end and my husband and I would fall asleep every night “watching” TV. You’d think I’d remember this before last’s night ruminating as I was trying and suffering trying to sleep as it was about 2 am and I was still tossing and turning and lighting about my 6th cigarette out of frustration. OMG. When we decided to get a nice new big sectional sofa, we moved the other one upstairs to the loft where I rarely go.

So about 3 am the image of the reclining sofa came to mind. I could not believe I had totally forgotten this sofa, but not just me, the whole family did. So the hell that the last 6-8 weeks has been could have been a little more bearable if any of us could remember shit. Not just I have a memory problem, hmmm?

Last night starting 3 am, having the medicated pads on together with lying in a recliner finally made for a better nights sleep, except for waking up hysterical at 7 am thinking mistakenly it was Monday and afraid I had overslept for an appointment. After that I slept nicely ’til 11 am. Tonight I am looking forward to settling myself in my recliner, armed with the analgesic pad applied, pain med swallowed, book in hand ready for one of the best nights sleep in weeks, ready to wake bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for my next physical therapy appointment. Maybe my luck has changed, thank you wild horses.
