What’s Up With The Royal Wedding Hysteria??

Who cares?? Why? Aren’t we Americans who broke away from British rule in 1776, not believing in royal control…wanting a classless society and no damn Tea taxes?

So why in God’s name are we then the same society so enthralled with everything British? I just don’t get it. . .people are enamored by the accent when anyone opens their mouth with an English accent ..thinking they’re spouting pearls of wisdom. What is that about? Are we still the poor children who broke off from the Queen and are left wanting?

Did you ever notice how Madonna and a few other actresses have spent a lot of time in England and then “pick” up their “accent”. I find that a little affected and just damn pretentious. If they want to be English, have at it. Are they paying taxes there, I wonder? Are they now thanking them for their wonderful career and all the awards they garner? Hmmm, just a thought.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not the opposite of an Anglophile, (whatever that is. I couldn’t find the word for hatred of all things English) my mother is 100% English, I just don’t get the slobbering love affair some Americans have for Great Britain. I just heard a weird statistic that 32% of Americans are thinking they’d want a King and Queen in America.  What? Are they serious? Didn’t we fight for our independence. . . I know our government is doing a bad job, but why do they think that’ll be a better way?

Have you heard how bad off people are in England? Wake up. America is still the best place to be.

In a culture that’s become obsessed with celebrity, being “royal” is tantamount to being on the ultimate A-list.

It’s funny, I work with a number of British scientists and I *swear* people think they’re smarter because of the accent!!
