American Idol … The Top 6 Singing Carol King Songs

How about these contestants, huh? They really are pulling out all the stops aren’t they? I thought James Durbin was just amazing singing “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”. . .his voice was just beautiful, he brought tears to my eyes. His voice is just lovely when he sings a low-key song like last night, you can hear his range and the depth of feeling, it is a thing to behold.

Jacob started the night with “Oh No Not My Baby”. It was just alright for me. There is something lacking in Jacob Lusk for me personally. When he started out in the competition and was singing the gospel stuff I loved him, but he’s lost the big appeal and I can’t put my finger on it. After he made that comment when he sang Michael Jackson’s “Man In The Mirror” that if  he got thrown off it would be because people didn’t want to face themselves, not because of his talent, he kind of pissed me off, I thought that was a very obnoxious thing to say. Who the hell was he to say that?! Anyway, that having been said, the bloom is off the rose, he was doing too many riffs and going nuts showing off his flowery voice, now I don’t think he knows what to do to showcase himself. I still think he may have a future in music, perhaps in the gospel genre, just not as the American Idol.

I loved, loved, loved, Haley’s version of Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” last week but this week I did not love her duet with Casey of “I Feel The Earth Move” it was just okay. Her individual performance was better, but it didn’t blow me away. Her rendition of “Beautiful” was alright. It didn’t move me. She still seems stilted on the stage to me. Maybe it’s her heels, or the steps. I hate when all the performers insist on coming down to the judges, I just think it looks so phony. She really needs a song to really move her and me, like she did last week, she just looked like she really felt the Adele song. She needs another song like that.

Scotty McCreery did well with “You Got A Friend”. He changed it up a bit and seemed like he felt it. I also like the way he sits there and “tells” his story. He doesn’t try to run around and try to dance or strut his stuff, ’cause he can’t, so he sits half the time and it works for him. He is comfortable in his niche and it’s working for him, this week it was a little different, and I like it. He seemed a little more humble, too which I liked, he might not win, but he’s destined for a career in Country. Good for him.

As for Lauren Alaina, she does not float my boat. She has a nice voice. She seems like a nice enough kid. I just do NOT see her as the NEXT American Idol. I can see her singing country with a career in music, she needs a little more time getting seasoned, pushing herself, getting tougher or they’ll eat her alive! Her song, “Where You Lead” did not excite me, she tries, I’m just not a country fan and she just doesn’t believe in herself enough yet, so how can we?

As for Casey, I’m a fan he’s a mad musician. . . he’s really good, I just wish he would tone down his growl a LITTLE and sing a little more. SING, not yell, now my money is on JAMES!!!!!!!!!!

So there you have it!!!!
