The applause for the President when he shows up to speak in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan about 15 minutes late is unbelievable. It’s like he’s a rock star! He relates to the college age kids well by acting like he’s one of them, even using slang and euphemisms like “man” so he sounds cool. Cracking jokes and talking sports he knows how to play to the crowd.
Eventually he gets to the subject of education, making many worthwhile quotes such as “We still have the best network of colleges and universities in the world. No one else is close.” He states that “the challenge is it is getting tougher and tougher to afford it. So, we’ve (he and his people) got to do something to help families to afford this higher education. My administration is increasing student aid.” Then he speaks how Congress has to act to pass his tax credits to save young people’s money. If you read his plan, I think the money will only be sent to colleges that the new BOARD being formed say deserve it. He’s calling it “RACE TO THE TOP“. I believe he states the obvious when he tells the students and of course the voting constituents watching how getting a degree makes your income twice that of someone who doesn’t get a high school diploma.
He switches off education and starts turning on the Re-Election campaign Obama. He then starts speaking about manufacturing and cars. How he saved the car industry when no one else wanted to. He turns to how hopefully these kids are studying engineering and technology and then teaching. How hopefully they will make a lot of money, but if they don’t how they won’t have to pay a lot of taxes if they make less than $200,000.
One of his fabulous quotes was “Not all of the jobs that have gone overseas are going to come back. Let’s be realistic!” Then he went into clean and renewable energy, how we should take advantage of our own wind and solar, this is good for our economy, he said. (hopefully, without bailouts and ridiculous government investments, does he remember that?)
He speaks of how he wants a country where everybody has a chance. Though he says he put out a blueprint during his State of the Union Address, I didn’t hear it, did you? I heard more of his grandiose hope and dreams that will cost money…but never fear…he covered how he’d get the money….he’d tax the rich millionaires and billionaires more, the ones like Buffet and Bill Gates who don’t pay enough of their fair share, he’d tax them 30% to pay for the “shared responsibility” he speaks of.
He closes out with saying people should be paying their fair share and have a more generous America. “It’s our time to be responsible.” I just wonder why he hasn’t been doing and thinking that way for the last 3 years, or has he and that is why we are where we are RIGHT NOW?????
