Here we go again, let’s see how CNN covered The Florida Republican Presidential Debate from the Campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville with Wolf Blitzer hosting.
It’s the final four men…Senator Rick Santorum, Speaker Newt Gingrich, Former Governor Mitt Romney and Congressman Ron Paul.
They start off with deportation, “self-deportation”, and illegal immigration. Newt and Romney started off right away disagreeing. It seems that the race is between Newt and Mitt as they are the ones discussing the first few questions for the first 5-10 minutes without Santorum or Ron Paul involved at all. Eventually Wolf decides to include the other two, after the discord between the leaders has devolved.
I’m hoping it does come down to the choice between Newt and Mitt, as I see the other two men as nonviable. Unfortunately if they keep up the personal attacks like tonight, perhaps Rick Santorum will sneak between them as he just opined that perhaps both men could keep the debate to the “facts” not personal attacks. Unfortuantley Wolf won’t let it go, he keeps the fighting going, by going after Newt to attack Mitt on his finances. Newt tries to sidestep it by agreeing that they should keep to the facts in a debate, but Wolf paints him into a corner, and Mitt agrees with Wolf about getting into the discussion. From there it just gets ugly again, and nothing is gained. It’s unfortunate. I do not think Newt’s rise in the polls will continue with the negativity between Mitt and him. The country is getting sick of the negativity and Wolf seems to be enjoying it.
If only a White Knight would come galloping in on his horse to save the day from another 4 years of Obama, if someone else could or would enter the race that would be better than these choices, I’m all for it. I am not thrilled with any of these nominees, but any of the Republican candidates would be better than Obama.
The questions asked by the CNN host were divisive, inconsequential and in many cases nonsensical.
We’ll see how the debate hurts or helped the candidates as the vote is done in Florida next week. Only time will tell.
