Christopher Columbus and History

It’s odd how history and the passing of time can change the perspective on things.

My whole life Columbus Day had been a day some people celebrate and again a throw away comment on FB made me check my facts and change the way I look at things.

My Gawd! Life is funny and sad. I’m in my forties…..well just barely, but my whole life growing up Columbus Day had been a kind of Holiday. NYC even has parades and sales, I think. I always believed Columbus was Italian. Well, aren’t I the ignorant one! Now looking it up on Google I find that there is also the belief that the man may have been Spanish and a murderer of the indigenous Arawak Indian people of Haiti and enslaved them to Spain and just about single-handedly wiped them off the face of the earth!

So, what to do with this supposed truth? Wow……I don’t know if I’ll ever think of Columbus Day the same again. Is history being rewritten? Or are we just learning more as we go along?

His biography says he was born in Genoa, Italy and his first exploration was financed by Spain by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella so I guess it’s up to you to use your own discernment. He thought he found Asia, but in fact it was Haiti. In truth of fact the Vikings were the first to discover the New World not Christopher Columbus like it always was said.

There are so many conflicting facts, it would take hours to decide what is what. I’ll leave it up to you to decide what you think is real….I’m for Christopher Columbus was Italian and sailed the ocean blue in 1492. . .he may have enslaved Arawak people, I don’t know, I wasn’t there. Slavery isn’t acceptable now, unfortunately it was acceptable then. That doesn’t make it right…but times change and there have been slaves since the beginning of time…dominant people will always dominate weaker people. It sucks but it is a fact of life.  They will have to answer if there is a God. If you haven’t done it, you are okay, right?! Sometimes slaves may be better off than the working class poor, though I would never opt for slavery, I would always want freedom…..anyway, I think I’ll get off my soapbox……..so there is my blog on Columbus Day! Controversial, maybe! What do you think?

  1. I have also done my research and now know that slavery was initiated by the Portugese but it was not meant to be in the manner that the European brought it upon the African and Carib and Arawan people of the Carribean Island. The Northern Europeans were years behind in the awareness of technology and the fruits that the Europeans of the Mediteranean region were experiencing with the people of Northern Africa and Africa in general. When the Portugese began to venture in that area of Northern Europe a people that was having famine and hunger issues pounced at the opportunity to do what they thought was necessary to take care of its people.
Prior to the Northern European’s assimilation with the people of Africa and Southern Europe bordered by the Mediteranean sea their was no concern about race or superiority because ne prior to that in that region lived peacefully. As is the case with every culture their were uprising and indifferences to ideas and culturally sensitive issues ,but their are no documented proofs that there
were issues concerning taking land or any other selfish reasons as those initiated at the hands of the Europeans coming out of the Dark ages. The history as rewritten by the conquerors was rewritten to hold those conquered in bondage without any knowledge of self and the accomplishments of their people. However as the God of the universe states in the scriptures of the Holy Bible to Abraham and I quote,”Your seed when find themselves in a land that is not theirs ,and shall serve them for 400 years;after which time I shall come and return them to myself’.
Nothing can be done to stop the hand of God and if man should look at the events as they are occurring in our midst everything prophesized taking place. From the election of a bi-racial president to mass murders of innocent children and others for no reason whatsoever by those mentally derranged.Nothing is by accident and the people to take the helm of the New World order will not take it by force ,but it will be done in a manner in which it will have God’s approval.
The KKK says they are a Christian organization. How would they feel if they were aware that the Christ they have an allegiance to is a man of color.(Black)
My article is not based upon theory but from the facts that are so readily available on the internet and in most libraries in these United States of America.Their are few races on this earth that have not at some point been assimilated by the blood of another outside of its own race.(Do your own research)Face it whether you like it or not now is the time for mankind to accept the 1 God of the universe in peace and love!!!!!!

Thank you for reading and commenting. I don’t understand what your final point is actually though. We shall reap what we sow? That seems somehow unfair when it was our ancestors who were responsible for the behavior you are speaking of…..hmmmm hardly seems fair. I guess we shall see. I hope your ancestors were just. It seems to me that it is one hell of a judgemental God you speak of.

My point Evie is that we as people are all one family under God and we al need to let go of racial identification of each other because it causes to much discrimination amongst the people of his planet.Race is a form of measuring of superiority and that is what causes division amongst the people of this planet.I don’t feel that God intended for it to be that way.It was not even observed until the Europeans came out of the Dark Ages and it is very understandable for a people not to want to return to a life that was harsh. We are ONE !!!
