Zumba Virginity Lost

Today was my first Zumba class and I’m still processing it. A friend of mine was kind enough to take me to her health club as a guest to try it but I just don’t know how I feel about it yet. I will admit it was a great workout….very high energy and fast-foot movement.

Part of my problem may be that I am too much of a perfectionist at everything I try so not knowing what the hell I was doing was disconcerting. I expect to know how to do things by osmosis, though that is ridiculous, I know.

Going in cold, having never done Zumba before is quite an experience. The music is LOUD! The action is fast paced. I don’t think I have rhythm for the Latin dancing, but hopefully it will come with time…… maybe if I went on Dancing with the Stars and had a professional teacher I could learn?

Whatever…..but I do know that I’m glad I went and I suggest that if you are thinking about trying it you should. Why not break out of your box and try something new? If not, how will you find a new passion? I’m not sure if it is for me yet…..I’m willing to try a few more classes. But I must say, I wasn’t embarrassed and I hung in there for the full hour. No one cares what you’re doing, everybody is too busy doing their own thing. The teacher was amazing. I was able to twerk which amazed me. So for a new experience, I’d give it 2 thumbs up!

  1. I agree that it’s kind of jarring to be thrown into a Zumba class! I started two weeks ago or so and I was surprised at how there was little to know real instruction – just learning as you went. It was refreshing, though, and nobody cares if you make a mistake. I find that really comforting πŸ˜€ Especially as a dude in Zumba haha. Glad you had a good experience!

Jarring is a good word for it! I started T’ai chi with no experience and that starts cold with no experience, but the teacher goes slowly……and with the slower pace it’s so much easier to pick up. The fast dance moves, if you have not danced in years are a little daunting in the Zumba, but I think I will try again…..it was exhilarating and I’m sure good for my heart and soul! Congrats on you being a dude and attending……you would have been the only one in our class πŸ™‚ Thanks for reading and commenting……I hope you come back for more of my ramblings! Evie
