Are You a Liberal or a Conservative? I was asked this at a gathering recently and before thinking I answered, as most of us do with an either/or answer. Personally I think this is a broad question and ripe for discussion or animosity right from the beginning.
Well yesterday, after thinking this question over more, I came up with a much more pithy answer that I think I am going to use from now on. I know it is wordy but it is true.
“I am neither and both……I am my own person and have my own opinions and ideas. I am suspect of being put in any one box with any group of people as such. Once labeled people have preconceived ideas of what each of these ideals are and what people think. I do not want to be these and only these, I am so much more. Labels shouldn’t define us……who decided what is what?
People who are associated negatively with any political group be it Liberal, Conservative, Republican, Marxist, Communist, Tea Party, etc. may be the bad apples of the group and also unfortunately the most well known of the group. They may be the extremes of the example. I do not want to be painted with the same brush, and I refuse to be.
I am NOT the same as any other, I am ME! Get to know me and my opinions and my many varied ideals as they are and then judge me, decide if you want to know ME for who I am not what you think I am because of such labels.”
What do you think?
