So we’re bombing Libya. It may be the best thing for Obama and the Libyan people, I just pray that there is no way that we get involved in a fight on the ground. I don’t know if we can afford anymore troops across the world.
I wonder if Mr. Obama waited too late to get involved or if taking a strong stance by bombing will actually help his popularity, though I am surprised he is now visiting Chile and Brazil who want nothing to do with this political hot bed, so he will not mention the topic of the troubles in Libya. So in my opinion, I can’t figure out why he felt the need to visit them at this time. Perhaps he should be in Washington addressing the war we are now involved in, instead of ignoring the topic with countries who don’t want to get involved. Weird timing….
I am so glad that the bombing of Moammar Gadhafi’s Compound was done by other’s, not us. The blame falling on America is usually negative and it’s great to see British and French troops stepping up to the plate. One of my main concerns is the loss of life of civilians, but we must remember that Gadhafi was killing many, many of his own people who were in his way and didn’t agree with his politics, so I don’t mean to sound cavalier but unfortunately there will be civilian casualties with war, and without the media 24/7 coverage of on the spot war coverage, it might not seem so gruesome.
I believe the live coverage is what really hurt the poor Vietnam Vets when they returned. That’s why there was such a stigma associated with these soldiers when they returned home to the States, which was a damn shame! They didn’t ask to fight for their country. When regular innocents saw killing, not being there understanding war, having to shoot or be shot, not being able to relate to guerilla warfare, it was too easy to judge from their easy chair after the fact. Also, mistakes will be made in the heat of the moment! Who are we to judge, we weren’t there? War really is hell, it is not meant for everyday 24/7 viewing. It should be a last-ditch effort to rein in maniacs from killing MORE people, and denying them their freedom and rights.
What amazes me, is that Gadhafi may still remain in power after all is said and done?! I hate to say it, but does that make any sense? Why doesn’t someone like James Bond go in and take care of that? Oh, I forgot, we’re a kinder and gentler society…at least some of us are…
So, we’ll see how this plays out…and pray for the best. Just my 2 cents, what do you think?
